The European Union might “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it calls “unjustified” travel bans issued by the US on five Europeans working on fighting digital hatred and disinformation, an EU official stated.

EU Officials Condemn US Move as ‘Coercion’

Officials from Europe including the French president charged the US administration of “bullying and threats”, following the visa restrictions targeted individuals that were central to efforts to introduce laws regulating US-based technology firms.

“For too long, European activists have led coordinated campaigns to pressure US companies to suppress US perspectives they oppose,” stated a senior US official in a social media post. “This government will no longer tolerate such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”

Germany, Spain, the UK and a chorus of EU officials supported the French president in criticizing the decision.
