Liverpool Refuses to Change Attacking Style Amid Recent Slump, Declares Arne Slot

The Dutch manager has revealed that the team leadership are aligned with his perspective regarding the team's slump and he has no intention of discarding their offensive approach in pursuit of a solution. The tactician acknowledged that six unsuccessful results in seven matches was not good enough ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.

Growing Expectations During Tough Spell

Liverpool's coach recognized the pressure was on before his makeshift team were eliminated from the Carabao Cup against the London club. However, he emphasized that this urgency to stop the losing streak is not coming from the Anfield hierarchy or football administration following a summer transfer outlay of approximately £450 million.

"They say similar things," commented Slot, whose squad will encounter Real Madrid in the Champions League and visit Pep Guardiola's side in the domestic competition.

Team Strength Stays Unquestioned

Slot believes his team "possess an exceptional group if they are fully healthy and fully prepared for the programme we are facing". He mentioned that the recent signings in players such as the German international and the Swedish striker, who is expected to be sidelined again against Aston Villa through physical problems, had left the club "in a strong situation for the near future and the years to come".

Gelling Difficulties

When asked why his team were taking so long to gel, he responded: "That question isn't constructive. 'What's causing this?' I provide reasons and people say I'm offering alibis. I can identify five or six reasons why we are not winning as much or suffering defeats as we do but, as I consistently state, there are never enough excuses to have a results sequence as we had now."

  • No matter if I could come up with 200 excuses
  • As Liverpool manager you cannot lose
  • Unfortunately six out of seven

Defensive Numbers

Only Burnley (twenty-one) have conceded more clear opportunities from regular play this season than the Merseysiders (19). The table-toppers, the Gunners, have conceded only two. Yet Liverpool's coach rejects the team has been overly exposed and maintains there is no reason to compromise forward-thinking approach for a cautious system after 10 games without a clean sheet.

"I don't see us giving up numerous openings so I don't see a reason to modify our philosophy completely but we must improve in not conceding goals," he declared.

Recent Examples

"Versus the Red Devils, how many openings did we give up? Versus the German side when we were 3-1 up, we barely allowed a shot on target. In all the games we have competed in we haven't allowed a numerous openings. Absolutely not. We do concede a somewhat more than last season but that is related to us being 1-0 down so you become more adventurous. But overall I don't feel that our problem is that we give up too many openings. Our challenge is we are unable to finish the openings we produce."
