Six Suspects Apprehended After €12 Million Robbery on Gold Processing Laboratory in the French Republic

Six armed perpetrators carrying military-grade weapons detonated charges to breach the security of a gold treatment facility located in Lyon, France, slightly injuring five staff members during what is being called the most recent prominent daytime heist to hit France.

The bold operation occurred on the afternoon of Thursday, with law enforcement authorities quickly arresting the alleged criminals and retrieving the loot valued at approximately €12M (£10.5 million), officials reported.

Five staff members of the precious metals facility sustained minor injuries due to the explosion, and three individuals were taken to a medical facility for evaluation, according to regional authorities. A total of twenty-eight staff were inside the facility when the thieves struck.

Those arrested, considered experienced criminals, were taken into custody shortly after the incident in the neighboring community of Vénissieux, according to investigative sources.

A female participant who participated in the heist was taken into custody as well, a police source indicated.

“Six suspects who employed explosive devices in a raid against a metals processing plant in the Lyon area were arrested at the scene,” the French interior minister stated online, lauding police for their “firmness, rapid response and command”.

Assault rifles, handguns and explosives were likewise seized.

The raid happened as law enforcement in France on that Thursday apprehended five additional individuals, including a primary suspect, in connection with the recent audacious raid on the Louvre museum.

Numerous detectives have been searching for four perpetrators who employed a truck equipped with a moving lift and cutting tools to break into an upper-level exhibition space at the prestigious institution on 19 October, making off with precious items estimated to be worth €88M.

In another notable incident, robbers the previous month forced their way into the French capital's Natural History Museum, stealing gold samples estimated at exceeding $1M. A young Chinese female was arrested earlier this month in the city of Barcelona in relation to the burglary, officials confirmed.

The sequence of heists has generated apprehension in the nation regarding insufficient protection at museums and various establishments containing precious artifacts.
